Hmong hand stitched purses are a work of art on their own. There's a rich history to study about the Hmong. What I have learned is that they have been refugees since the 1950's and they are famous for their talent in making "story cloths". They didn't have a written language, so their way of tell their history is through their story cloths. There are still a few women who still make it their livelihood by making their Paj ntaub, or "flower cloth" but, in the USA, the next generation has become more modern and I haven't met any women in their 20's or 30's that is interested in keeping the tradition. Hence, there are fewer of these pieces available, and therefore even more valuable.
